The summer program is filled with many field trips, activities, assemblies and a variety of fun and educational experiences. Children participated in a variety of summer activities at the summer sites. There were special events like the Wild Animal Show, a Zum Zum environmental assembly, and other site-specific programs. Children had the option of venturing out into the community for swim lessons and recreational swimming at the Oceana Pool. This past summer’s bus trips were to Blackberry Farm, the Oakland Zoo, U.S.S. Pampanito, Palo Alto Children’s Theater, Jungle Fun, and a barbeque at Frontierland Park. Childcare children also had the choice to participate in the recreation division field trips.

The childcare summer programs has four sites open this summer at Cabrillo, Vallemar, Ocean Shore and Sunset Ridge. Daily activities follow the weekly themes. Special center events include a “Wild Animal” assembly, walking trips, and site fieldtrips. This year themes include “Teamwork Will Get You There”, “Kaboom”, “Pandora’s Box”, “Octopus Garden” and “Wild and Wacky”.

This summer the childcare and recreation divisions have teamed up again to offer additional summer options for the childcare children. Participants have the option to sign up for summer recreation trips, with pick up points at both Vallemar and Sunset Ridge. The program is offering weeklong swim lessons, through the aquatics division, with pick up and drop off service by childcare staff.

Monthly Fees
Monthly fees include: morning and afternoon snack; site fieldtrips, including bus trips and walking trips; onsite assemblies, including a wild animal show; arts and crafts supplies; and weekly swim trips (swim days vary by school site). Optional recreation field trips and swim lessons cost extra (additional fees may apply for the $40/day drop-in program).

Free Summer Child Care
The City of Pacifica offers free or reduced-cost childcare to families who qualify. Sliding scale fees, based on income, are available for families that meet the income and need eligibility of our subsidized program. Funding for the subsidized component comes through the State of California Department of Education who also establishes the eligibility requirements for the program. Interested families should contact Mindy Tiet at (650) 302-9219 or  mtiet@pacifica.gov for more information

This summer’s program will include a variety of fun and healthy things to do outside in the fresh air and sunlight, whenever we can get it. Weekly themes will offer children exciting and unique choices at Cabrillo, Ocean Shore, Vallemar, and Sunset Ridge schools. Children’s days will be filled with theme activities, special site events, swim lessons, local community trips, recreation swimming, charter bus field trips and a summer “Bucks for Books” reading program. The LITES (Leaders in Training) students will be joining staff to offer the children of Pacifica a fun, diverse and safe summer experience.
