The County of San Mateo Veterans Services Office is partnering with VA Loans of California to offer a free informational webinar on VA Home Loans.

For years VA Home Loan limits rendered them of little use in high priced markets such as the Bay Area. VA Home loans have done away with these limits but an unfortunate side-effect is that many veterans in our area are still not aware of the benefits of VA Home loans.

Some of these benefits include;

  • VA loans offer better terms and interest rates than most other home loans.
  • 100% financing — typically, there is no down payment required for a VA loan, as long as the purchase sales price of the home does not exceed the appraised value of the home.
  • There is no need for private mortgage insurance (PMI) or mortgage insurance premium (MIP). PMI is designed to protect a lender when the down payment for a home is less than 20% of the mortgage amount and MIP Federal Housing Administration (FHA) requires to self-insure your loan against potential loss.
  • There is no penalty for paying off the loan early.
  • Funding Fees are waived if you are Service Connected at 10% or more.

You can also use a VA Home Loan to re-finance an existing loan.

We will be hosting a Free Information webinar on February 2nd at 6:00 pm pst with VA Home loans expert Andrew Vierra who will provide an overview of the program followed by an opportunity for Questions and Answers.

Senior Program Participants:

Pacifica Senior Services is committed to providing essential services to ensure food security and isolation are addressed.  We will continue to do so as long as it remains safe for all.  Programs and services currently being provided include:

  • “Grab and Go” lunches, Monday through Friday from 11:30am - 12:30pm for seniors 60+ years of age. You can drive to the east side parking lot and you don't even have to get out of your car!
  • Shopping Assistance for Seniors Homebound (SASH). This service pairs a SASH volunteer with a senior who cannot shop due to limited mobility, lacks in-home support or transportation.  For more information on the SASH program, please call 650-738-7353.
  • The Meals on Wheels program is for seniors homebound with severe medical conditions that have put them at nutrition risk.
  • If you need transportation, we are still funding the CaR program.  This program utilizes Serra Cab as our vendor and is considered an essential service.  Click here for an application.

Welcome!  Pacifica Senior Services is the community focal point for seniors' quality of life.  We are committed to providing services and programs for older adults including those with disabilities that maintain and enhance the quality of their lives, reduce isolation, and promote socialization.

A division of the Parks, Beaches and Recreation Department, Senior Services programs and services are provided at the Pacifica Community Center, which houses a multi-purpose Senior Center.

The Senior Center offers seniors, 60+ years of age, nutritious lunch programs (Congregate and Meals on Wheels), transportation in our 20-passenger wheelchair-lift equipped bus, information and referral services, more than 40 weekly classes and clubs, daily activities, entertainment and volunteer opportunities.  The "Golden Treasures Gift Shop" featuring homemade items and crafts is located in our Senior Lounge.

Senior Services programs have been in operation since 1974 and are currently funded by Older American Act grants, San Mateo County grants, City of Pacifica General Fund support, Pacificans Care grants, charitable donations, client donations and in-kind volunteer hours.
