Airport Noise

Introducing SFO's NEW Aircraft Noise Tracking Technology

San Francisco International Airport has launched a new tool - The SFO Aircraft Noise Tracker. This tool gives you a near real-time look at actual flight tracks and noise levels around the airport. You can investigate aircraft-related noise events, validate your aircraft noise calculations, and submit community concerns directly to the SFO Aircraft Noise Abatement Office.

The tool enables you to:

  • Find Specific Aircraft Information including an aircraft’s type, altitude, origin/destination airport, and other flight identification. Locating yourself on the map offers additional location-specific information.
  • Determine Aircraft and Community Noise Levels from permanent and portable noise monitors deployed by the airport which are shown by the colored numbered dots.
  • Replay and Investigate Historical Flights
  • Display Map Layers of major SFO arrival & departure routes and noise contours
  • Submit a Noise Report with SFO’s Aircraft Noise Abatement Office (Coming end of October)
  • See Flights in 3D. Our previous tracker, Volans, is still available within the application and allows you to see flights in a 3D view.

You can share your impressions of the new flight tracker tool by emailing noiseabatementoffice@flysfo.com.

Aircraft Noise Complaint / Mitigation Information

Find out who to contact at the Federal Aviation Administration if you are impacted by aircraft noise.

The SFO Airport / Community Roundtable website also has an Aircraft Noise Complaint Form. The SFO Airport / Community Roundtable website at www.sforoundtable.org has additional information and resources related to issues of aircraft noise.

SFO's Replacement and Second Chance Noise Insulation Initiative

  • Second Chance Initiative: This initiative gives a second chance to participate in the Noise Insulation Program (NIP) to owners that did not participate in previous phases of the NIP.
  • Replacement Initiative: This initiative provides repair or replacement of eligible acoustical improvements to residential properties that were insulated in previous phases of the NIP, where the improvements have failed.

To be considered, the property must be located inside a specific noise boundary corresponding to the area where the average daily aircraft noise level is equal to or greater than 65 decibels.

To determine your property’s preliminary eligibility, or request additional information, please contact:
